Michael Bauermeister pushes the boundaries of fine craft into the world of sculpture. The vessel is an ancient object made resoundingly new again by Bauermeister. The carved linden wood forms are often as big as a person and suggest functionality without being constrained by such a requirement. Bauermeister’s pieces are designed and created individually, but possess an identifiable, archetypal natural element. His goal by using a natural material such as wood is to create a calming work of art that can give a respite in this world. As he explains: “I am interested in the point where nature and the made environment come together.” With a former furniture maker’s technical skill, Michael turns this vision into reality.
